EMTA is a family run theatre school offering training from industry professionals in all disciplines. All our teachers our industry professionals and because we are a family run school, the students are not treated like a number, with their individual talents nurtured. Children are taught Dance, Singing and Drama with a view to constant performances throughout the year.
Classes are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays at purpose built studio in Mill Hill.
Many ex-students have forged careers in the theatre, Zoe Simon has recently starred as Matilda in the West-End. Whilst the academy nurtures those who wish to make a career in musical theatre it also caters for children looking for an enjoyable, rewarding hobby that builds confidence and self esteem. Children have taken part in two West-End children's variety shows at Her Majesty's theatre and two charity galas at Grosvenor House in Park Lane. From 2018 - 2021 sixty pupils took part in Aladdin and Sleeping Beauty for the pantomime company Starcatcher Productions at the Bushey Arena and Twickenham Exchange theatres. During the lockdown of 2020-21 the children took part in online lessons and recorded a newly produced musical song in their lockdown choir. This can be viewed here via the tab above. EMTA also offers private LAMDA examinations with a combination of Zoom and face to face classes.
It has been a long time since fresh Drama classes were offered in North London and we've decided to change things up a little. With our experienced acting coach Tom Malmed, we allow the children to explore different aspects of drama to deliver a strong foundation in clowning and improvisational skills. They will work on a variety of exciting scenarios and scripts while focusing on the various techniques required for stage and screen acting, including audition preparation. Our goal is to tap into the strength of each student's particular personality and let it shine through with each character they create.
Our Saturday singing classes will teach students the importance of good technique, with the aim to work towards both solo and group performances. Here at EMTA we love to give our students the opportunity to learn new skills, from learning harmonies in a chorus, to different styles of singing. The world of theatre is constantly evolving, which gives us lots of different genres to explore! We understand that confidence has a huge role to play in this discipline, and therefore aim to provide lessons that are both fun and inspiring.
The dance discipline is one that is extremely popular amongst children of all ages, and we can see why! On Saturdays we offer classes in both Jazz and Tap, with instruction from Miss Emily and Miss Katy. We aim to teach students the correct technique needed to become a strong dancer, as well as the skill of performing and story-telling. These lessons will consist of specialised exercises and energetic routines, giving our students the opportunity to work towards exciting stage performances.
Our Wednesday Musical Theatre classes aim to combine all Dance, Singing and Acting disciplines. Our students are given the opportunity to amalgamate their skills, and explore different musical pieces. This is where we see characterisation really come to life, whether it be through a dance routine, acting scene or chorus number. These classes consist of both vocal and physical warmups, before focusing on projects we intend to showcase in future presentations and productions.
